The Bonneville Salt Flats has been designated an Area of Critical Environmental Concern. It should be! It is a unique, geologic phenomenon. Under Federal law the BLM is required to provide special management attention to protect and prevent irreparable damage to important historic or scenic values. What is the BLM doing to protect the Bonneville Salt Flats? They won’t say. It seems obvious that the BLM should require those mining in the area to engage in efforts to replenish the salt which is being removed from the Salt Flats or stop mining. Are they doing this? They won’t say.
