So we all know that Holden was the source for not only the ’04 to ’06 GTO, but also the ’08 to ’09 G8. Well Pontiac was assassinated several months back and this put an end to the G8...an extraordinary car. This honestly made me angry because GM makes some pretty junk cars right now...I still can't BELIEVE that they still are selling the Impala the way it looks.
The idea of selling the G8 under a different name was entertained for a small moment in history but maybe GM thought that it was too high in quality to actually sell and put on a Chevy lot. So bye-bye G8.
Then, a few months later, Lutz announces that the G8 would return! Kinda...sorta...not really. It would be an extended verison of it that would only be available for police use. Because this makes total sense! Again, the Impala sits on the Chevy lot looking like a beluga whale. (Did you ever think that you could rebadge it and sell it as an Impala?)
Well now GM talks about the new car that will just knock our socks off for its high quality in an affordable and economical package, the Chevy Cruze. This car intrigues me because it the car GM should have been selling in the states for...like...the past 5 years. I come to find in my research on the car that this thing has been around for a while and that it wasn't difficult to convert over for use in the United States. So what's the hold up? Why do we need to wait to buy a car that you should already sell? Who knows...
So GM is busy completely revamping the face of Buick because everything that has the Buick name on it was pretty worthless and they're desperately trying to save face since they killed Pontiac. So while they're too busy with that, they STILL don't have the Cruze on our roads. They STILL don't have the Volt ready to go, and they STILL haven't made any plans to bring the G8 to our streets again.
Well I had a conversation with freelancer Jim Taylor this morning and we discussed GM's ignorance in this field and how Ford really came back strong. This got me thinking about Holdens again so I went onto their site. Well guess what! They have the Cruze! They have the G8! Yeah, they always had it but the G8 styling was released as a special edition Commodore and they have been selling like crazy. So much so that Holden is now offering the G8 as a regular car and dealers are optioning them with Pontiac badges.
When is Holden going to start selling cars in the states? I think I'm done waiting around for GM to stop playing with Buick and creating concepts while Holden actually makes crap people want and are a solid competitor in the world of automobiles.
