2010 "Phoenix" Trans Am Debuts This Saturday

Trans Am Depot and Kevin Morgan Designs will debut their 2010 concept "Phoenix Trans Am" on Saturday at the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton, Ohio.

1. Just a few quick observations if that's okay.

1) Hail naw.

2) They desperately need to do something about that hood.

3) Obviously no muscle car is ALL bad, but this is certainly the first stubby Trans Am I've ever seen.

4) The honeycomb wheels don't seem to translate to the much larger diameter and look funny, at least in the drawings I saw. And some might argue that anything above 17-18 inches is gratuitous and awkward looking on this car. Seriously, the 400,000" wheels really were a bad choice for the Camaro/Phoenixbird. 17x10 or thereabout would have been a much better idea and about the same amount of rubber but NOOO.

5) Apparently because of the body and the interior they were shackled to this whole "retro" thing even though it rubs against the grain of the forward thinking Firebird. I wonder why they decided to recycle the iconic "Trans Am" name instead of a completely new name? Hmmmmm...

6) Firebird had a long history of outdoing itself and no way any past Firebird designers would consider this a step forward. Some might argue it's better to have no Trans Am at all than some hastily cobbled together shop class project.

7) But at least this will once and for all put to bed the notion that the Firebird is nothing more than a fancified Camaro, as well as the notion that it was only a matter of time before someone would find a way to capitalize on the Trans Am name without actually offering a SINGLE SHRED of substance.

3. Why are they making it look like a late 70's *** Thet missed the mark on that one. The new camaro is a retro 69 as we all know and the styling was right on.Why not take cues from the 69 T/A and build a concept car . I think it would look much better than the current firebird concept car.I am sure there are many people like myself who waited to hear of a new factory firebird with some first gen retro styling only to be dissapointed.
