YOU CAN MAKE THE 2011 T/A A REALITY

ASC Creative Services told HPP that it has been inundated with responses to our August 2009 story “Trans Am of Tomorrow.” Pontiac fans from all walks life are telling ASC to make its 2011 Trans Am proposal a reality and are providing suggestions for the production model.

Design Director/General Manager Steve Nowicki says, “We have set up a separate email account because the response has been fantastic.” The company will reply to those who have already emailed, but asked for Pontiac fans to keep emailing, as Steve is saving all of them to use as confirmation to potential investors that there is a market for a 2011 T/A.

Currently, ASC is seeking investors to move the project forward, despite the fact that Pontiac is no more.

4. Actually, if people could get past the "it's not a Pontiac unless it's got a PONTIAC motor" thing, and the "it's just a rebodied Camaro thing" (all the best Pontiacs shared chassis with other GM models, folks), this idea of ASC taking GM's best muscle and sports/sporty cars and adding cosmetic and performance upgrades consistent with the Pontiac heritage is really interesting. In this way, Pontiac could live on as a boutique marque that could be sold by selected GM dealers - Buick-GMC dealers come to mind! This was GM's idea for the brand before they killed it outright, which they did because they couldn't make the economics work. OTOH, ASC could make these cars in limited numbers and price them accordingly, enabling them to make a profit.

5. Regardless it is still a rebadged camaro may be if it wasn't it would sell quite well.
Saying that pontiac could live on is wishful thinking sense pontiac has been died sense 1981 at least in my opinion.

6. The whole idea of ”retro” is I think inconsistent with the Firebird (and Pontiac in general) so it would seem that the current F-body would be the first one that needs more than a few swapped components to make the Firebird version. Especially with that super-retro interior – there’s not a single thing Trans Ammy about it. And since the Camaro’s already on the streets, to keep from looking like a total hack you pretty much got no choice but to build a Trans Am from the ground up, no?

I’m not sure I’d even care to own a Firebird that was built simply to profit from the use of its name, or at least not for several years. It seems like this is just a way to cash in while the Firebird name (supposedly) still has some sizzle, and while providing a little comfort to those understandably in denial over the reality. The stock market crashes and then a few months later right out of left freaking field, all of a sudden no more freaking Pontiac? That’s wonderful, just wonderful. This isn’t even a little bit how this story was supposed to end.

But aren’t T/A enthusiasts above such irrational knee jerking? In one person’s opinion, the whole Firebird concept is more than happy to have ceased in 2002 and doesn’t need no stinking rebirth. Get yourself a WS6 immediately, and perhaps a neck brace depending on your previous car. They will become an increasingly rare sight but will still be the kings of the road and the ultimate head turners for (probably) a couple hundred more years. And besides, finally once and for all whenever someone says “hey, nice Camaro” they might ACTUALLY be talking about a Camaro.

7. I would lower the 2002 body style, I would take the pop-up headlights and replace them with the Corvette lights or the lights in the Audi. The Vette makes more sense, since both cars fly under the GM banner. I would take the antenna off the car is to fast for the antenna, which strips after about a year. Larger tires, bigger brakes, and an LS7 super charged engine for the WS6 and a regular LS7 for the Trans Am...No way do we follow the same lead as the retro camaro, that car has handling problems because of it's built.

9. Put a V8, different interior than the ugly Camaro interior, needs to look a little more aggressive (like a Pontiac), make sure it spanks the Mustangs real good.

10. I would love to see a new firebird. But like other people have said just dont take the new camaro and make it into a firebird build it from sratch and the fans would love it

12. I definatly agree about building it from scatch. We dont need another car on the road that is mistaken for a camaro. Other than the pop up lights and rear design of my '86 TA. People mistake it for a camaro all the time. That just really pisses me off. When the firebird first started it had its own motor line that was capable of leaving all mustangs and camaro's sitting at the line wandering what hit them. So, lets not start making the same mistakes that were made form '82-'02. I say Ground up styling and parts.

14. I’m sorry so may "Pontiac fans" feel that way. But I bet you all enjoy being able to find parts for your classic Pontiacs from millions of cars in wrecking yards instead of just thousands. I for one like being able to find certain parts a dime a dozen not 1 a $million. Shared platforms are why I am always going to own GM. I need to be insured I can make affordable repairs and have reasonable budget built restorations. But I do agree that Pontiac has struggled to hold on to all that made Pontiac great, and you can go back and see when they started to lose that which makes a Pontiac great to you. That time may look like 81 to many, Or 73 to some, or maybe 02. Point is they"us" never lost so much at one time until now.
