2010 Pontiac G8 ST Cancelled

Pontiac announced to its dealers today that the 2010 G8 Sport Truck is cancelled.

“As part of the ongoing vehicle review resulting from the long term viability plan submitted to Congress, Pontiac is being refocused on producing sporty, fun to drive cars. Given this direction and the strong lineup of Pontiac vehicles currently available, we did not feel that the G8 ST fit into the future vision of the Pontiac brand. This decision has no effect on the G8, G8 GT, or the just launched G8 GXP” Jim Hopson of Pontiac told High Performance Pontiac today.

1. You finnally have a idea for a sporty fun to drive vehicle and you cancell it? I guess You just sold another Camero for Chevrolet as thats what I'll buy now.

2. I urge you to consider the G8 GT or GXP before you go out and buy a Camaro. Both vehicles are impressive and fun while being featured in a more practical package than the Camaro.

Mr. DiOssi you just don't get it.To make it perfectly clear 4 door sedans are not what we are looking for on a site called High Performance Pontiac.The Sport truck concept at least gave us visions of the Performance El Camino's of the past. If I was looking for practical I'd buy a mini van.When I go to a cruise or car show with a 4 door it would not turn a single head.So leave it to the current execs at pontiac to blow another opportunity to have a neat corner of the market with the sport truck.Talk to your corporate friends at pontiac and tell them to wake up.....

5. When I first saw the Pontiac Truck I decided I wanted one. Then your contest to name this truck came up and I entered it. You could win one of these trucks if the name you entered was chosen. What ever happened to this contest?

6. Pretty sad... Why not cancel the entire brand? I've been hooked on Pontiac's ever since my Dad drove home a new, white/black '66 Bonneville with the 4BBL/389 from Phil Tokan Pontiac in Milwaukee. I always longed for a '66 or '67 GTO when I was in high school in the 70's, but couldn't afford one. Finally bought myself a new Formula Firebird new back in '79 when I was just 19. I still have it, plus a '79 T/A along with my wife's '04 Grand Prix GT and until this last spring, a '99 Bonneville that I bought back in '00... We took innumerable family trips in the "bonny" and I used it daily for business. After dumping $3000 into it for the dissolving factory intake gaskets and plastic intake that didn't like Dexcool antifreeze, the transmission decided to go south. Was trying to keep it limping along long enough to get a G8, but the tranny made my decision for me... I bought an '08 Dodge Ram P/U. The LIFETIME powertrain warranty and $6000 back made me a believer! (Even w/$4 gas) I bought it with the smaller 310-horse 4.7L V8, rather than the 5.7L. I had always used the Bonneville to tow a small trailer for my and my son's dirt bikes out for weekend desert riding and hauling around engine blocks and heads when we did work on the '79s engines. What I'm getting at, is that if the G8 or G8-GT was available, I'd have probably bought one! Particularly the GT, as it's El Camino-like functionality would have been the perfect combo of sports car looks, handling, and the utility of a truck! Combine that with the demise of the Bonneville, Grand Prix and Firebird lines, and I'm wondering if the G8 won't just get re-badged as an upscale Chevy and the Pontiac division will finally get shut down. GM's poor decisions and the UAW's 19th century union politics are finally catching up with GM.
May the Pontiac brand, along with GM rest in peace... bailout and all. BTW-The Dodge is my first truck and I love it! Being up high and being able to put most anything in the back make it a pleasure. I enjoy taking it when I attend the Pontiac car shows to look at the nice cars GM and Pontiac used to build and have since lost interest in doing. Given the realities of oil politics and the warming of the atmosphere, I'm sure the new Washington administration will ramp-up fuel mileage and CO2 standards that were rolled-back in the 80's. I'm certain that will finally be the death of GM and Pontiac once and for all. When we all end up in Priuses or some other foreign-built hybrid or electric, it'll just make my old '79 Formula and T/A seem all the sweeter when they leave the garage for the occasional weekend drive. That and the memories of what once was...
