High Performance Pontiac had the opportunity to preview the Pontiac G8 ST sport truck on Monday, and we were delighted that the vehicle impressed us with its exterior design, muscular V-8, and cargo capacity.

Based on the G8 GT, the G8 ST we saw was not yet a production-intent vehicle. It featured the 361hp V-8 that powers the G8 GT, and the same front cabin interior of the G8 sedan.

Here's what we liked:

Exterior styling-perfect for the segment. The vehicle looks very "Pontiac." The front face of the sport truck displays traditional Pontiac cues like the split grill and Pontiac dart.

The length of the vehicle was perfect, and the bed was nicely sized to hold two of almost anything.

Drivetrain-V-8, lots of horsepower, and a six-speed automatic. Great stuff.

Wheels: 19-inch sport package wheels and tires, just like the G8. Another great, here.

Tailgate: Although we didn't operate it, it looked easy to use.

Spare tire: Easily tucked away underneath the bed.
