At the same time GM and Pontiac were developing the Second Generation Trans Am, GM was involved with a second out of this world project-developing the guidance and naviagation systems for the NASA moon rovers.
According to GM, "GM designed and manufactured the mobility system for the Lunar Roving Vehicle used by the Apollo15 astronauts to navigate the moon’s surface in 1971. This unique vehicle is now on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum."
