I don't understand Pontiac's more recent move with the introduction of the G3. I had known about the G3 from the Mexican market, but I never thought they would bring it to the states. It's my opinion that this car just completely destroys Pontiac's image a performance/sports brand. Sure, the G3 will have a little more sporty flare than the Aveo, which it's based off of, but why do we need it?
Maybe GM sees a gap in the lineup at Pontiac so they felt the need to re-badged a car that get 34 mpg to be a Pontiac. Well, also in the same press release, the 2009 G3 will join the all-new 2009 Vibe (32 mpg) and recently enhanced 2009 versions of the G6 sedan (33 mpg) and G5 coupe (37 mpg). What blows my mind is that the G5, a very good looking car, gets 37mpg.
So where is there a place for a car with very little room, is ugly, has nothing remotely appealing in performance and still doesn't do as well on the highway? Perhaps this thing gets 28mpg in the city or something.
Either way, the G3 is here. It's "cool" and should only be sold in green, if that's what they are trying to promote. Hey, maybe we'll see a super-cool G3 GXP that makes....120hp?
I would buy a G5 before I even thought about a G3, but that's just me.
