Eight NHRA POWERade Pro Stock racers head to Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park with a chance to win $50,000 in the 24th annual K&N Horsepower Challenge, a lucrative race-within-a-race bonus event scheduled for this Saturday, June 28, during this weekend's second annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

Each year, the eight drivers who accumulate the most points in qualifying during the bonus event series earn their place in the K&N Horsepower Challenge.  Drivers started earning points for the 2008 K&N Horsepower Challenge at the 2007 Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals and continued to accumulate points through the 2008 Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals held last weekend at Englishtown, N.J.

Seven of the eight qualified drivers for this year's K&N Horsepower Challenge will come to the line behind the wheel of a GM-branded car, including No. 1 qualifier Greg Anderson who leads the eight-man contingent with six No. 1 qualifiers in his Summit Racing Pontiac GXP.  Allen Johnson is qualified No. 2 in a Dodge, current Pro Stock points leader Kurt Johnson is No. 3 in his ACDelco Chevy Cobalt, Anderson's teammate Jason Line has his Summit Racing Pontiac GXP qualified No. 4 for the event, defending POWERade Pro Stock champ Jeg Coughlin Jr. is qualified fifth in the JEGS.com Chevy Cobalt, Dave Connolly in the Charter Communications Chevy Cobalt is qualified sixth with four No. 1 qualifiers to his credit, six-time Pro Stock champ Warren Johnson is qualified No. 7 in the GM Performance Parts Pontiac GXP, and Ron Krisher rounds out the eight-man all-star field in the Valvoline Chevy Cobalt.

But the eight competitors qualified for this year's event are not the only ones that can win big. Eight consumers entered in the K&N Horsepower Challenge Sweepstakes have already won a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two to the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, and one of these eight finalists will win the Grand Prize, a new Pontiac G6 GXP coupe courtesy of Pontiac.

On Saturday, each finalist for the K&N Horsepower Challenge Sweepstakes will be randomly paired with one of the eight Pro Stock drivers competing in the K&N Horsepower Challenge race.  Each one will join their driver on stage for introductions before driver eliminations begin, and the sweepstakes winner that is paired with the winner of the K&N Horsepower Challenge will win a brand new Pontiac G6 GXP courtesy of Pontiac.

"The Pro Stock Class is about the delivery of air flow," said Steve Williams, K&N vice president of research and development.  "K&N makes the world's best air filter and we are working very hard to create new technology for the NHRA Pro Stock category.  The entire K&N family is very proud to be working with the NHRA, Pontiac's Fred Simmonds, Summit track owner Bill Bader Jr., and the entire Pro Stock community to make the K&N Horsepower Challenge something special."
