I caught a news story on the local Pittsburgh station that GM has partnered with other companies and institutions to forward the development of driverless vehicles. You read correctly, vehicles that drive themselves while you sit there as a passenger awaiting arrival at your destination—you know, like a cab or a bus without the broken A/C or bad smell. Talk about taking the fun out of driving! This is taking the DRIVING out of driving!
The claimed advantages attached to this scenario are reduced accident and fatality rates each year and lower energy costs since the no driver is deemed more efficient than a human driver. Within 15 years GM hopes to have this system to consumers, according to the report.
