Nitrous. It's a term that has long been associated with increased performance. It was used by the German Luftwaffe in World War II to increase the performance of their aircraft, and even the British were known to "spray" their aircraft, too.
The hot rodding community was quick to identified it as a legitimate way of increasing performance in their race cars. It has since grown into one of the most popular power adders on the market due to its cost and incredible performance gains on the cheap. Great steps in technology have played a big roll in the popularity of nitrous as well since it's considered the "new" hi-tech way of increasing power.
Many, however, are strongly against the idea of spraying their car. Stating that it's more dangerous than forced induction when, in reality, it's not. Many suffer from greed with nitrous. Knowing that an extra 50 ponies to the wheels is merely a jet change away is quite tempting. Nitrous user must show restrain in that regard. Also, just like any forced induction setup, the engine tunning is crucial to the homeostasis of the engine. Running too lean or too much timing will result in a mess of parts and oil on the ground.
So, what are your personal feelings with nitrous systems? Do you run one or have you?
