Pontiac in American Le Mans?

Will Pontiac Bring Their New G8 To The ALMS?

The new G8 is here and it's time to show the world.

Panning

With all this talk about the new G8, we may have forgotten something about the car. Down in Australia, they have the V8 Supercar Series. Cool name right? Well that's not all that's cool, they race LS V8-powered Holden Commodore VE sedans (Pontiac G8's cousin). Holden has a very rich racing heritage in Australia. The Commodore VE has proven that he G8 has winning potential on a road course so we should race them in the States, too.The only road racers Pontiac is fielding now are the GXP.R, loosely based on the G6, the Solstice, and Pontiac-powered prototype racers.

Cornering

Tune into an American Le Mans Series race and you won't find anything Pontiac. It's a total shame. You will find Ferrari, Corvette, Viper, Porsche, Panoz, Ford, Audi, as well as many others. Slide Pontiac into that list of premier auto makers and it will fit right in. ALMS is a global stage for the best drivers and sports cars. The G8 could gain success in the ferociously competitive GT2 class. They would face the 911 GT3 RSR and F430 GT. Last season these two sports cars shared the podium all season.

The only downside to my wishful thinking is the heavy involvement that Pontiac has dedicated to the Rolex Grand Am Series. It would highly unlikely to see a G8.R with any factory support, but they could easily offer a track chassis for those who yearn for the taste of victory.
