Can Pontiac Get Any Better?

What Else is up Pontiac's Sleeve?

Performance has never been so alive in Pontiac. There is one obvious car missing, though.

Now you have read about the next GTO or Firebird, and I'm sure you've seen some of the excellent artists renditions, too. Well I am also sure that you have read Lutz announce that there are no plans for a GTO or Firebird for the next few years. I honestly don't care if they bring back either of the cars. I have owned both and I think they're great. I would actually like to see a new car come from Pontiac, a new cult icon.

There is no denying the power the name GTO has. It's a muscle car. Albeit, a bit marred by the pseudo-luxury 04-06 fuel injected cars that received mixed feelings (I love them). Off the top of my head, I think the GTO is the only muscle car that was only available with a V8. That speaks volumes about the seriousness the Great One had.

When it came to style, though, the Firebird held the flag. It was constantly improving its design as the times changed. I believe some generations went on a little too long, but that's my opinion.

I just think that these cars came, they saw, they conquered. Veni vidi vici. Maybe it's time to try something new. The G6 is a fantastic replacement to the Grand Am, and the G8 is an even better replacement for the Grand Prix.

When I was dreaming about my perfect G8, it became a reality only a few days later. This has led me to believe that Pontiac can still pull it off. They can still build cars that I love and want to own.

I plan to pick up a Solstice GXP Coupe for my daily duty, but my weekend warrior needs to be something with about four more cylinders, though. So I started to dream again and I remembered the Holden Coupe 60 concept. This car has a strong possibility of being produced.

Aside from the concept show and glamour pieces, I can source these parts in a cost effective way. Combine the parts from the G8 with the new Camaro and you have very little left to make specifically for this car, no different than an F-body. If it's priced as a high end $30-$40k sports car you can use the same V8 from the Camaro of G8 GXP and not step on the toes of the Corvette in the process.

So this may be a dream, for now, but we all want another two-door coupe back in the lineup. A new car and new model might be the answer.

What do you want them to call it? I was thinking G7 GXP.
