A NEW GTO OR FIREBIRD, WHICH DO YOU PREFER?


With plans for the new Camaro moving right along and a planned release of the 2010 model in the first quarter of 2009, what does the future hold for Pontiac? If there is a new Pontiac model based on the Camaro what do you think it should be? Should we have a 2010 GTO or Firebird?

Guess we all know by now ,factory firebirds for 2010 will never happen. what a shame, pontiac needed something new in the stale stable. The G-8 truck or a retro first gen firdbird/trans am might of been the ticket to save them.

Also, the Pontiac G8 is the car that GM cud use 2 beat BMW, i hav the VXR8 Bathurst n it CAN beat M5's, AMG's, it the same as a normal VXR8/G8 but with a stupidly huge supercharger, i traded my Monaro in 4 it, they r the kings of the race track in Ozz Land, it cheap here in UK, 34,000

But ur forgetting that the Camaro is basically a GTO with a different body, so it ain't a true US muscle car, it an Holden/Vauxall Monaro aswell, ur G8 saloon is a Holden/ Vauxall VXR8, at the moment the only true US muscle car GM has is the Corvette, i bet u if they were 2 bring bak the El Camino, it would be a Holden Magoo really. BTW, the Monaro (GTO) is a gr8 car here in UK, it a 28,000 grand Vauxall its rivals here are 50,000 grand BMW's, Audi,etc.

Without a doubt..the Firebird. I still have mine from 1999 (looks brilliant) but I'd like to give it a rest and get a new one. Been waiting a long time guys!!

I think firebird is the way to go!!! blow that camaro off the streets. It needs at least a fuel injected 400 with ram air, scoops, 6 speed and i agree with the tach on the hood. ill buy one for cash right now!!!! ive got a 68 400 lemans!!! bring back the power.

as a gto owner, i would love to see it come back. just not with the body style of the new camaro. that has always been a firebird thing. so i just say let the firebird be reborn from the ashes of old and come back a little retro.

Its the Firebirds turn. Hopefully the Camaro can pull some prod #'s. Ford, GM, and Chrysler need each other for this market. I think they should market these cars on TV together competing with the BMW's etc. All three need limited production cars that will really take out an M5 or AMG or Lex in a big way. Co op the advertising dollars 3 ways. Incinuate guys dont drive BMW's. You need to hammer away at the perception of who's got fast cars here. Change perception. Its all about marketing. You can have a fast car like the 2004 GTO and screw up the marketing, and see what happens. Ford did this right with the 2005 Stang. It really got people in the showrooms, and production #'s were great. Give an dollar incentive to trade in your slow unamerican car. BMW cant compete with 3 larger mfg's pulling together advertising dollars. Everyone will get a piece.

Oh God GM quick jacking us around, we all know deep down in our hearts we need the Firebird back in our lives, Im tired of seeing all these people in there new challagers, and mustangs, thinking they have a winning chance GM DONT LET FORD DO THIS TO US. You've tried with the GTO and from what I hear it wasnt such a good thing, BRING BACK THE PHENIX, LET IT BE THE FIREBIRD. I like so many others are craving a Firebird comback, dont let us down

Just to clear the air a little......GM is using the same chassis for the Camaro and the G8. Both cars are based on the new "world" chassis designed by Holden.

I think if Pontiac is allowed to bring the Firebird back, it should be based on the G1 models. Since the styling inspiration for the new Camaro was a '69 Camaro, the Pontiac version should be styled like a '69 Firebird, with the twin opening chrome grille and twin hood scoops. The T/A version could take its cyues from the '69 T/A as well. The Firebird version would have to share the Camaro body and fenders, but the front and rear fascias, hood and spoilers would be unique to Firebirds, just as GM built them 40+ years ago. I'm sure Pontiac designers can come up with a better interior than their Chevrolet counterparts, just as they did with previous Firebirds. The returning Firebird would definitely brimg many loyal Firebird and GTO owners back into Pontiac dealerships. Pontiac execs need to do what they need to do to make this happen.Geno

Well it has to be Firebird but does it have to be a Camaro in a T/A dress. Would love to see a design closer to the '78 model or earlier.What we don't need is another chevy clone.

hopefully camaro will be a big hit and pontiac will rebadge it and include some special pontiac options, ram air, hood tach. handling ws6, how about awd option to compete with imports.

they should bring them back with the motors that made these cars legendary like the pontiac 400 or 455with now day fuel injection and 6 speed manuals that make serious horsepower and torque

I think Pontiac engineers should take a spin in a 1964 Pontiac GTO with a factory 389, take it for a spin on an oval track. Then they should take a factory 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge for a good all out ride on an oval track. Then take each car out cruising on a Sunday night. They should also drive both these cars with automatic and manual transmissions. Afterwards design the new "GTO", on the 1964 body with a new 389 as a standard engine and offer options of either or all 400,421, 428 and 455 engines. It would be nice to see the new GTO with factory headers, tachometer, tilt, cruise, AC, P.Seats, P. windows, power door locks. Also it sould only be two door, have bucket seats, and mandatory floor shifter only. Other options t-roof, sunroof and convertible. Make sure they have a high performance suspension. Maybe put a few of these out with rollbars. Also throw in a 200mph or 320 km/h speedometer or bettar. If they can't build a GTO this way, they should build a Firebird as per the Camero.

Firebird... Camaro needs its Pontiac twin! GTO had its chance already with the 04 model being a fluke. In my eyes the car just looked too plain. When they added a ram air hood and dual exhaust, thats when it became a sexy car, it is actually my favorite modern muscle car. Even though it is my favorite, I think it is time to put the goat to sleep and wake up the bird, or having both would be nice :)

FIREBIRD!!!! It has to be. Come On, there are people who like the Camaro and buy it, there are people who like the GTO and buy it, THEN THERE ARE THOSE OF US WHO LOVE THE FIREBIRD AND WE CAN'T BUY ONE, BECAUSE GM WON'T MAKE ONE....GM is trying to make us buy a Camaro. No disrespect to the Camaro but even if they're clones as people call them(Firebird/Camaro) but on the street they're rivals. The GTO had a chance and all it had from the Classic GTO was the NAME and yes performance but you can put an LS2 on anything and it'll go fast too, but that's not the way to revive an ICON. I love all PONTIACS but the Reason WHY? Is the FIREBIRD. Please GM I AM 100% sure that if you make it people are going to buy it, there are many loyal FANS.

FIREBIRD!!! With out hesitation. That poor ole Goat got kicked to death by the Mustang. @#&*! It was out done by a more affordable, but inferior car. With all due respect, bury the Goat. And stop worrying about Big Upper's pockets. Make money on all those other cars... Cadillac, whatever. Give us loyal GM fans a break. A 25k to 28k car with horse power that will compete with the Challenger and mustang. Real car guys don't care about memory adjust seats, and all those other dodads. We just want to drive. Engine, manual trans., and the road. Enough said!

either car would be great as long it's not an import like the last GTO was, that was a joke! make it look like a real car, not just another sports car!

I'd pick the Firebird, but I don't think we'll ever see it. GM isn't interested in what we want and they won't build it so anybody can afford it anyway!
