Knight Rider Leaves Pontiac for Ford

The new KITT in NBC's Knight Rider will not be a Trans Am.

According to inside sources, Knight Rider's developmental team for NBC contacted GM and asked what was available. There was no Trans Am in production, and Knight Rider asked if a new Fifth Generation Camaro could be used for the show. GM said "No way" and the result is that KITT will now be based on a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. What are your comments and thoughts?

1. How could GM say no to that?! There's a perfect opportunity to showcase the Camaro and help start a new legend. And they passed on it?

2. WHAT! That was a no brainer GM passed up on free advertising for there car. I guess GM is making enough money, but all I have heard is that they are losing money. Whoever made that decision should be fired.

3. well i think thare dumbasses, pardon me for saying that but think about it, gm killed oldsmobile, the got rid of the caprice, thay got rid of the trans am and camaro, thay got rid of the bonnivillie, saying pontiacs should be called g this and g that, to put in simply, the gm that made the cool cars of the past, that had pride, was pure american and thrived to have the best is dead. so we are left with a gm that allows unamerican plants to design and make the gtos and the new camaro, i seen were gm has a new design for a v8, give it time and thay will kill the best v8 design that has been a art of america for over 50 years.

4. I think it is a travistry,like the others posted, how can u pass up on that kind of advertising for one,and as they have killed off the ta and camaro and the ta is one of my all time favorites.they don't know how much of a push the new camaro could make? a kitt car a ford please!

5. GM has missed the boat many times. They should have stood behind their products better. After 33 years,and numerous problems,especially with a 99 Malibu,3.1,,I have an 06 Corolla.Bye,Bye GM

7. It's too bad, Pontiac isn,t the in the new Knight Rider. In 1964 the 1964 Pontiac started the Muscle Car Era, from 1964-1972. Without the Pontiac would the general public would not be able to drive these fine muscle cars during this period of time. Pontiac gave the world it's first true muscle car. The 1964 Pontiac GTO, with the 389 was the first real muscle car. Nobody did anything like Pontiac did when it made the 1964 Pontiac GTO. Pontiac lost out, but will always be remembered as the GREAT ONE.

8. well crap..even if they cant get a new or upcoming car from gm..whats wrong with one of the older firebirds...still fairly new along with the aftermarket come on..u can build a car in a catalouge any more..

9. lol..also reminds me of smokey and the bandit... flipping thru the channels couple years ago..came across a newer tv series just called bandit...based off of the old movies..but used a dodge stealth instead which is also a cross bread import.

10. how can u call KITT a FORD...WTF?? GM is gonna pay heavily for not unleashin that Camaro...they jus dont know how many Firebird/Camaro fans are there do they. Lets jus say this...does the new Smokey & the Bandit T/As hint on bein a Cougar???

12. just remembered...they made a knight rider movie..long after the series and kit was in pieces and the put him in a 57 chevy for a while..then they put him in like a 90s camaro or firebird ..so i dont see why it wld be such a prob useing a 90s plat form. hhmm got it recorded some where..have to find it and dig it out.. but any how..if there making a new show..it should go with what they used on the movie..sence that was suposed to be the new one.

13. as a pure pontiac fan let me say i could accept nothing less than a trans am, id been just as upset to see a "camaro" take the body of kitt as a mustang. without a bird in the lead role its definitely got no pizzazz(ala jim wangers). gm rules minus cheverolet.chevy sux!corporate engines suck! and new knight rider sux! thank god i grew up with the real deal! whats next? dukes of hazzard remake with a four door charger?

14. No, y'all - it makes perfect sense. GM clearly doesn't know what they are doing, from Wagoner and Lutz to the dealers. The third door handle on my 02 S-10 breaks every 6-8 months and I make them give me a new one under warranty! I'll never give them another penny, I'd rather buy used, or Honda or Toyota. It's sad, but they lost a lifetime customer by the way they treated me. Knight Rider will be cancelled pretty soon anyways, so that will prove our point for us.

15. I bet they're kicking themselves in the @$$ now! That could have probly helped save them! Advertising and New TA!! the world would have loved it!

The show is dead to me.....they should have just tried a diff. show if they couldnt get the TA! What an abomination!!!
