Transforming A Trans Am Into More Than A Daily Driver

Transforming A Trans Am

Being no stranger to the LS1 F-cars, we debate on what to do next on a 2001 Trans Am, and you will see the updates on our web site.

To dissect my mind, and know why someone would go out and mod their daily driver, you have to be partially insane as well. I bought a 2001 Trans Am for my daily commute to and from work, travel to Orlando, go around town, and so on. I did this because I was foolish when I was younger and had a Camaro SS, another LS1 powered car, and modified it to the point that it became more a drag car than a street car. This would lead to the purchase of a truck, and I knew it just didn't satisfy my driving style, or my needs from a vehicle. When I thought about what I really wanted, and I could afford, there were only two cars that fit that bill, both of which were Pontiacs. The LS1 Trans Am and the LS1/2 powered GTO.

After weighing out the costs of each vehicle, I quickly settled for a Trans Am. I just knew the F-bodies so well; it just seemed like the more logical answer. Finding one in the same color as the SS, black ZR1 wheels, and mods was just icing on the cake. What can I say other than I love the look of Light Pewter Metallic on these cars? I made a firm statement that I wasn't going to mod the car more than it already was. There was a list of aftermarket goodies that found their way on the car from the original owner, so I felt it would be fine the way it was. What was I thinking when I made that statement!

Soon I thought about installing a better sounding/looking exhaust, and did so with a Corsa. Then, on my quest for buying some new front suspension for the SS from BMR, we began talking about the Trans Am. That got the gears turning on what to do next.

Be on the lookout in the upcoming months for the progress of my demented mind, and what I do with this new specimen. I will mostly be focusing on the appearance of the car, as well as the handling. The challenge, and overall goal, is to make these changes without sacrificing reliable performance, and drivability.

Let the games begin.
