What: 2nd Annual All GTO Track Day

This past Sunday, LS1gto.com held its 2nd Annual All GTO Track Day at Bradenton Motorsports Park. There where over 70 late model GTO's competing in an elimination style racing event which concluded with elimination bracket racing. For race fans it was a day of excitement, and for GTO enthusiasts, it was heaven. BMR Fabrication was the major sponsor for the event and manufactures a vast assortment of beefy suspension, chassis, and driveline pieces for the late model Goats. At the end of the day, I am sure a few owners were wishing they had paid them a little visit and replaced their weak links.

On hand for this goat gathering was the debut of the fallen Sgt. Chris Erberich's GTO, which received an LS7 engine swap performed by Tom Tiberio. Chris' wife proceeded with the engine swap to commemorate and remember her husband who saw duty in Afghanistan as well as Iraq, and we will be covering it in a future issue of High Performance Pontiac Magazine.

The cars were broken up into specific classes in order to makes things fair and more competitive. There was a place for every GTO from bone stock to heavily modified, even multiple power adder cars weren't left out of the friendly competition. The heat of racing surprisingly wasn't followed by the weather, with the temperatures hovering in the low 80's and high 70's. Not ideal racing conditions by any means, but even with the less then optimal air, heavily modified cars were knocking on the door of the 10s.

Performance is still alive with the new GTO, and these owners continue to push their cars to the limits and beyond. This was a fantastic event that is sure to be a hit next year when is celebrates it's 3rd year.
